Stylish When Stuffed

by Erin Brown

Say hello to everyone’s favorite time of the year: the holidays! That’s right, ladies. We’ve finally reached the essence of cozy sweaters, delicious food and ever-amazing fall foliage.

While it’s important to be mindful of the things we’re grateful for this year, such as our family, our go-to girl gang, or even our current life situation (let’s face it, we’re all #blessed in some way), it’s also pertinent we stay conscious of the incredible fall trends happening in fashion this season.

So, the real question is: what are you showing up in this Thanksgiving? If you don’t already have your outfit planned, have no fear! I’m sharing some of my most-loved, fall trends to help you put together a standout outfit that will still leave you stylish when stuffed.

Accessories:

Oversized sweaters are always a great choice for fall, but one of my favorite ways to add flare to a loose-fit sweater is with some good accessories.

This Thanksgiving, pair your most comfortable sweater with some denim and slap on a belt or bandana. I’m loving the western styled belts, which have become incredibly popular this year. And when I wear a bandana, I trade off tying it around my neck like an ascot and around my hair like a headband. Both accessories add a fun, fashionable twist on a classic fall staple.

Bandana: Classic Bandana, Urban Outfitters -- $10 (or 2 for 16)

Felt hats and fisherman caps have also been taking 2017 by storm, so don’t be afraid to wear them indoors! I’ve never been big into hats because I often think they look ridiculous on my head, but I’ve found they’re not as hard to pull off as you think. This Thanksgiving, get out of your comfort zone and try one for yourself!

Bottoms:

Depending upon your personal style, there are so many great choices for trendy bottoms this season. I’m crushing hard on jumpsuits this year, so I’ll be the first to give you a reason to wear one to Thanksgiving. Pair your favorite one-piece with a sweater or chiffon top to take it from summer to fall.

I’m also obsessing over flare pants this year because they make a simple bottom look effortlessly cool. If you haven’t given this trend a go, it’ll be a great style to try out with family and friends.

Outerwear:

It’s likely chilly wherever you lovely humans are living so, to finish off your look, be sure to pick out a coat or jacket that’s classy, comfortable and, most of all, warm. Given I live in Seattle, fall is the perfect time of the year for jackets. It hasn’t gotten too cold yet (for the most part) so I love to wear lighter coats and keep them open to show off my outfit of the day.

Suede and leather jackets are still totally in, but so are denim jackets, coatigans and teddy coats – so find a style that suits you! Here are two of my personal favorites.
