Meet the Team

It has been 50 days since we launched Truth + Dare. Fifty days of telling you the truth and daring you to do something about it. Fifty days of this incredible team, and fifty days of you wondering who we are! Your questions have been answered and the team responded, so keep reading to find out more about this girl, and guy, gang that we are so proud of.

Lillian Roth, Editor-in-Chief.  Senior public relations and political science major from Montgomery, AL with a minor in coffee and sarcasm. What are you thankful for this year? The T+D team. These people empower, inspire, and motivate me everyday. From every late night meeting to hilarious GroupMe discussion, I learn something new and leave with ideas on how we can impact young women’s lives. What is your favorite family holiday tradition? While Christmas morning is when we get goodies from Santa, Christmas Eve is for “sister gifts”. My two younger sisters and I spend the holiday season searching for the perfect gifts for each other and then exchange them before we go to sleep on the 24th. Truth or Dare? Oh you know I pick both!

Maggie Draughn, Managing Editor . Public relations major with a minor in psychology, Maggie is a senior from Nashville, TN. What are you thankful for this year? My T+D girl gang. Also, as my time at UA is slowly coming to a close, I am really thankful for my supportive parents for providing me with the opportunity to be able to attend college. What is your favorite family holiday tradition? Watching the movie ‘Christmas Vacation’ with my cousins every single Christmas, and never getting tired of it. Truth or Dare? Dare because it is fun to see who actually follows through.

Lacey Cencula, Editorial Director.  From Birmingham, AL Lacey is working towards a Masters of Business Administration. What are you thankful for this year? Learning to manage anxiety better. And my lululemon joggers. What is your favorite family holiday tradition? Growing up, we’d go to Baker’s Farm every year to chop down our own Christmas Tree. We’d also go through the corn maze, feed the farm animals, and ride the horses. Truth or Dare? Dare. Stop sitting around and waiting. Do something.

Corrin Coleman, Issues Director . A senior from Cleveland, OH, Corrin is majoring in political science and public relations. What are you thankful for this year? This year I am thankful for my girls here at school, those who since freshman year have constantly poured into me and lifted me up when I’m feeling low. What is your favorite family holiday tradition? Each year my family goes Black Friday shopping. We get up, get Starbucks at 4am, then hit the stores. It is the best time to people watch and catch some great deals. Truth or Dare? Dare because I am always down for a challenge that pushes me out of my comfort zone.

Madeline Anscombe, Content Director . A senior anthropology major from La Grange, IL. What are you thankful for this year? Truthfully, 2017 was not my year. With that being said, it has made me much more thankful for the bigger things in life like having a roof over my head, food to eat, family and friends to lean on, etc. This year I am definitely thankful for the bigger picture and for everyone whom I have been able to count on. Truth or Dare? I’d have to go with dare. Anyone who knows me can tell you that I am a very candid person and will tell you exactly what I’m thinking (perhaps to a fault). Personally, I find it a lot harder to dare myself to try new things and step outside of my comfort zone. I think that daring is a crucial part of growing up and almost always can teach us a lesson.

Sara Massey, Features Director . Majoring in human development, Sara is a sophomore from Tulsa, OK. What is your favorite family holiday tradition? Once we decorate the Christmas tree with all the ornaments, all the kids have to leave the room while my mom hides the pickle ornament. She then lets us all back in and it is a mad dash to see who can find it first. Truth or Dare? Truth. I would rather know more about you and who you are than watch you make a fool of yourself, no matter how funny it may be.

Laura Martinez, Lifestyle Director . A graduate from The University of Alabama with degrees in marketing and apparel/textiles, Laura is originally from Scottsdale, AZ. What are you thankful for this year? So, SO thankful the gaucho revival didn’t take off. But also, for the incredible people I’m surrounded and supported by. Truth or Dare? Dare! If someone says I can’t or I won’t do something, I immediately want to ten times more (and usually, do whatever it is anyway).

Nelle Thomas, Content Editor . Creative advertising major, Nelle is a senior from Davidson, NC. What is your favorite family holiday tradition? My favorite tradition in my family is that for Thanksgiving we have a huge potluck and eat on paper plates! Being together is better than being fancy in my family. Truth or Dare? Although I am always down for a dare, I am going to have to pick truth. The truth is a powerful thing that is becoming harder and harder to find. I want to be on the side of the truth, and that’s why I love being part of Truth + Dare!

Katter Longshore, Music Media Contributor . A senior from Montgomery, AL majoring in speech pathology. What are you thankful for this year? Friends, family, and finishing grad school applications! Truth or Dare? I always pick truth. With my friends being so crazy it’s unpredictable what kind of dare they’d come up with.

Ashley Roling, Contributor . From Peoria, IL, Ashley is a senior majoring in communicative disorders with a minor in psychology. What are you thankful for this year? Outside of the usual things, I found myself thankful for the multiple photos feature on instagram, friends and family that have been killing it with the words of encouragement and advice, the grad school application process almost being over, and my final year of dining dollars. Truth or Dare? Anyone who knows me knows I am an open book and don’t say “no” to much. However, I still believe that a dare may be more difficult for me. So, I think I would choose it for that reason. Self-discovery and unexpected fun almost always ensue after trying out new things - and if not, at least it makes for a great story.

Josh Britt, Contributor . A freshman from Edmond, OK, Josh encourages you to stay tuned as he decides on his field of study. What are you thankful for this year? Man a whole lot. I am thankful for opportunities to get involved, whether that’s through Student Government or through the Center for Service and Leadership, it has been a blast. I’m thankful for the tons of friendships and connections I’ve been able to make while here. I’m thankful for T+D for giving me a chance to challenge my own way of thinking and for giving me an opportunity to (hopefully) bring about change. I’m thankful for friends and family back home, who have proven themselves over and over as some of the most loyal and caring support system a guy could ever have while I am 12+ hours away from them. It has been a good year, and I can’t wait to see what next year will bring for myself, the blog, and the University! Truth or Dare? Dare. I think joining the team and writing for the blog was a little in part due to a dare mentality, almost as if I was ‘daring’ myself to get way out of my comfort zone and get involved in something I had believed in, but never had the courage to be vocal about. For me, the goal has always been to dare to meet and love on as many people as possible, and dare to fail at all of it. So yeah, definitely dare.

Lindsay Howard, Contributor . Sophomore from Knoxville, TN, Lindsay is a double major in dance and musical theatre with a minor in entrepreneurship. What is your favorite family holiday tradition? Christmas Eve we last minute shop all day, followed by dinner with my extended family, and then church. We sleep in, open presents by the fire with Christmas carols playing, and then relax and spend time together until dinner time when we go to one of our favorite family restaurants. Truth or Dare? I would pick truth because that’s just part of who I am. I love thinking, processing, and discussing. I love to get down to the bottom of things and unpack the nitty gritty even when it may not be so fun.
